Dry Lacquer Black Urushi
Holy Water Vessel
This work emerged from a personal interpretation of Western forms, combined with the human urge to pray to the divine and the mystical quality of Eastern lacquer art.
The finish consists of transparent Suri Urushi, in which the wood grain remains visible. The lacquer was rubbed in by hand more than fifty times, as a ritual act and a form of devotion.
